About Us

Best friends since fourth grade, Kelly Sistrunk and Sarah Koskovich ('Flower Buds'), have always had an entrepreneurial spirit. Our initial spark of creativity occurred when we sold our first product--'homemade' perfume (to our mothers...but hey, a sale's a sale!) Years later, as owners of Flower Buds, we are both work-from-home moms who continue to enjoy and pursue our creativity through floral designs for weddings, birthday parties, anniversaries and other happy occasions.

Some common questions we are asked:

When/How did you begin working in floral design?
We both grew up in homes where fresh flowers were a must on the dinner table...even in the dead of winter our mothers and grandmothers would decorate with Nandina berries and dried leaves--so we come to our trade from having grown up with an appreciation for beauty and arrangement.

Sarah's undergraduate degree is in horticulture and we both have taken floral design classes at Gwinnett Tech and Lanier Tech.

Our first wedding was in 2004 for a dear friend's sister and we've been going strong ever since.

What areas do you serve?
Our studio is located in Gainesville, Georgia but we serve the Atlanta and Northeast Georgia area. While our studio is used for consultations, we are not open to the public at this time.

What is traditional wedding flower etiquette?

For the Bride:
A hand-tied bouquet

For the Bridesmaid: A hand-tied bouquet to accent the bridal bouquet or to compliment the wedding colors.

For the Groom: A boutonniere designed from blooms in the bride's bouquet or blooms that compliment the bride's bouquet.

For the Groomsman and Ushers: A boutonniere designed from the bridesmaid's bouquets or to match the wedding colors.

For Mothers, Stepmothers, Grandmothers and Honored Guests: A wrist or shoulder corsage or a petite nosegay to carry or pin to their purse.

For Fathers, Stepfathers, Grandfathers, Ring Bearers and Honored Guests: A boutonniere designed to match the groomsmen or wedding colors.

For Flower Girls: A basket of petals, a pomander to carry, or a floral head wreath made with blooms from the bride's or bridesmaid's bouquets.

Ceremony: This can vary depending on your location. Typically, in a church, we will have one large arrangement, greenery, pew markers, and perhaps a smaller arrangement at the entrance to the church. We like to build on the natural beauty of the ceremony location and will meet with you at the venue to discuss ideas.

Reception: Flowers for the reception will vary from venue to venue as well. Typical decorations include large arrangements or candelabras on the food tables, flowers for the cake, and table centerpieces.

What is a wedding consultation?
A consultation is a meeting to discuss your ideas, budget and expectations. Our initial meeting normally lasts one hour. After the consultation, we will create an itemized checklist and prepare your wedding proposal. This will include a description of the types of flowers to be used, prices of each item and the total cost and deposit required. Changes can be made to this proposal.

How do I book you as my florist?
Once we have agreed upon the wedding proposal, we will mail you a copy. You will sign this and return with a 50% deposit. This reserves your wedding or event date with Flower Buds. Three weeks prior to your event, we will confirm with you our proposal, and at this time the remaining balance is to be submitted.
